Remind App Problem Fix

Some parents have contacted us because they have not been receiving notices through the Remind App.  If you haven't received notices, please try the fix below for your device.  If this does not fix the issue, please call the school to speak with your child's teacher.

From your mobile device:

  1. Open the app on your phone.
  2. Click the three dots in the top right hand corner and choose “Account”
  3. Click the settings gear in the top right hand corner.
  4. Make sure “Enable Push Notifications” is selected.
  5. If it is already on, go down to where it says “Add Phone Number” and make sure your cell phone is added to receive notifications.

From a computer:

  1. Go to and log into your account.
  2. Click your name in the top left corner and choose “Account Settings”
  3. Click on “Notification Preferences.” Here you will see the devices you receive notifications on.
  4. If your cell number is not on there with text messages enabled, make sure you choose “Add a Device” at the bottom and add your cell phone number.

Remote Learning Suggestions

  • Have a dedicated area with limited distractions where your child works
  • Create a schedule or dedicate a particular time to complete school work each day
  • Set goals for each day (including make-up assignments)
  • Complete assignments on the day they are assigned.
  • Set a timer and take breaks
  • Work with your child in different ways
    • Ask your child to explain it to you
    • Watch the instructional videos with your child
    • Ask your child to ask you questions about what he or she is learning
    • Take turns reading it aloud
  • Stay in touch with the teacher.
    • Let the teacher know with what your child is struggling.
    • Ask questions of the teacher.
    • Ask for help from the teacher.
    • Keep the teacher informed if there is a reason your child could not complete an assignment.
  • Don’t do the work for your child, but help him or her.If you do the work, the child is not learning.
  • Check assignments to make sure your child has completed everything.Do not assume that because it is submitted that it is complete. An assignment can be submitted without having work completed.

Returning to School Video

As different groups of students prepare to return to school, we wanted to provide some information so parents and students would know some of the changes that can be expected. Title I Schoolwide Plan and Parent Involvement Policy

Eureka Elementary School held a Title I Committee meeting on September 28, 2020, and revised the Title I Schoolwide Plan and developed the Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy/Plan and Procedures.  The committee approved the two at this meeting.  Both documents contain a list of members that participated in the development/revision of the documents.  Links to the documents are included below.  Any comments about the Title I Schoolwide Plan or Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy/Plan and Procedures can be submitted to Brian Hamilton, the principal of Eureka Elementary, by calling the school at (434) 736-8458 or e-mailing him at

Resources to Support Learning at Home and Provide Extra Practice

We know that many of our families may not have internet access and are therefore not requiring students to complete any work online.  We do want to remind parents that if they have internet access that students can still login to the resources we have available.  Most of these are included in our Student Links tab on our homepage.  If you have any difficulty logging in to our online resources, please contact the school.  As we get links to other available sites, we will share them here.  If you have any suggestions for sites, please feel free to e-mail Mr. Hamilton.

2020-21 School Supply List

The start of the school year is quickly approaching.  To help parents prepare for the start of the year, we are providing a supply list for PK-5th grades here.  In light of COVID-19, the supply lists are a little different than usual.  For instance, we are requesting that students bring water bottles to school to help limit having to touch the water fountains.  Click here for the supply list.

2019-20 Eureka Yearbooks are Still available for Purchase

We still have 2019-20 Eureka Elementary Yearbooks available for purchase.  The yearbooks are $22 and checks can be written to Eureka Elementary School.  If you are going to pay with cash, you will need to have exact change as we do not have any change available at the school.  The Eureka Office is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 - 4:00.

Color Run will be Rescheduled when Safe to do so

Due to schools being closed by the governor for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, the color run had to be postponed.  We do not have a reschedule date at this time due to the uncertainty that is still present.  We hope we can reschedule it for late summer or early fall at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year.  If we can't, everyone who purchased a race pack for this year will be able to participate in next year's color run using this year's materials.  If you already picked up your race packet, please hold on to it.  If you did not, we have them at school and will have them for you to pick up when the color run is rescheduled.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school.
